Communications Lead

03/2024 – 05/2025

Virtual Museum Muste preserves the cultural heritage of Tuusulanjärvi area through the use of XR technologies.

As the Communications Lead, I was responsible for Virtual Museum Muste’s branding, internal and external communications, as well as strategy and project management pipelines.

Responsibilities

Website updates: structure, design, content, accessibility features, SEO, uploading WebGL versions of product demos through FTP.

Writing and editing: press releases, articles and blogs, newsletters, social media content, reports.

Visuals: vector and freehand illustrations, photos, on-brand materials.

Videos: demo reels, social media and marketing videos, behind the scenes shoots from virtual guided tours, shooting in-game material.

Stakeholder communications: holding Muste Café sessions for partners and audiences, guiding testers, keeping the steering group up to date.

Notable projects

Virtual guided tour in sign language

The project that brought me most joy was putting together a guided virtual tour in Finnish Sign language. I communicated with the accessibility partner Evantia regarding the translations, shot the virtual tour on the VReal platform, then synced these up in video format taking the translations’ longer runtime into account, and created the closed captions. Afterwards I sourced short versions for social media, which would still be in sync – and in good taste.

The video tour got positive feedback from the users of Finnish Sign Language, including a TV presenter.

Virtual Museum Muste (re)branding

After getting renamed to Virtual Museum Muste (Virtuaalimuseo Muste), I coordinated the rebranding efforts based  on the new name. This included figuring out the user personas and tone of voice, holding workshops, creating the general and communications strategy documents for the brand book, as well as the visual identity. The final website design, structure and accessibility features are also my doing.

XR Museum name competition

Originally known as the XR Museum, the concept needed a new name, which we sourced through a name competition. Me and the community manager organised the logistics, and communicated to press and the local communities.

Project management and strategic work

Since the museum is actually about 15 separate products, it needed a jump into a project management system. Having the experience, I organised the project on Notion using PARA methodology and created agile pipelines for different areas.

Using these areas I lead the efforts to create a general company strategy including values, mission and vision, which were then broken down into goals and KPIs, and their timelines. Based on the general strategy, I also created the communications strategy.
