Orange

11.02.2025 | Childhood series, Comics

Orange, a comic. Page 1/3. Comic in full colour. Panel 1: Greenhouse. "The first time I came upon the stench of death... it hadn't crossed my mind in decades. Panels 2-4: Bird flying in through an open greenhouse roof section. Panel 5: Dead bird with parts rotting. "An accident. A few days in the humid heat."
Orange, a comic - page 2/3. A full-page image of a skeleton representing death standing over dead soldiers from WW1 and a slavic war. They are all placed on an open book, covered in dirt and grass. An ominous stench is in the air. "The books I had read as a kid inferred that our death was special. By extension, the stench as well. I had misunderstood."
Orange, a comic. Page 3/3. Panel 1: Bacteria that causes decay in corpses. "It's not 'death', it's decay." Panel 2: Hand held out with a bird perched on top of it. "And 'we'..." Panel 3: Half of an orange, covered with mould. "...are no more special than an orange ... left on the counter for a little too long."

Notes

Don’t get me wrong, the smell is bad. It’s just not special.

The Death is an homage to Hugo Simberg’s works.
